Since it's opening in 1928, this government office building has taken the brunt of Toronto weather, causing the applied Gothic stone façades to gradually deteriorate. The most recent phase pertained to the parapet walls, which required stones to be replaced or refinished.

This job proved to be especially difficult due to the scarcity of Queenston limestone. Quarries in the area are no longer supplying blocks for dimensional work, only gravel. A stockpile of the stone was reserved several years ago for the restoration of government buildings with strict guidelines to ensure that there would be sufficient material for the completion of all present and future phases. Unfortunately, the stockpiled material had been blasted from the quarry, causing minute cracks and making it extremely fragile to work with. Additionally, the awkward shapes from the quarry created a much higher waste factor.

Old World Stone produced numerous parapet and ashlar stones, and reproduced the perimeter coping for all four elevations.
