It was a dark and stormy night when the top of the tower was hit by a storm, sending the uppermost Indiana limestone pinnacles and copings crashing through the roof and onto the ground 250 feet below.
Local masonry contractors stabilized the structure and removed loose fragments. Sample stones were pieced together and sent to Old World Stone’s production plant for replication. In addition to numerous finials, copings, pinnacles and decorative panels, eight tracery panels were dismantled and rebuilt using salvage and replacement tracery units. Over 14 tons of carved Indiana buff limestone was replaced.
