When the Board of Education needed to repair the limestone
entrance and portico of Bayside High School, they went
to AWL Industries who recovered the original 1933 drawings
from microfiche in archives. New drawings were created
for the balustrade using CAD.
Templates were created on computer by AWL, then e-mailed
to Old World Stone. The e-files were plotted to create
templates for the balusters, copings and window sills.
Much of the fabricating equipment at Old World Stone
is computer controlled as well.
This project is a fine example of high-tech meeting
the needs of traditional architectural restoration.
