Ralph Adams Cram (1863-1942), the Princeton University consulting architect from 1907 to 1929, created the first real master plan for the University. His firm designed this Graduate College in the Collegiate Gothic style. Cleveland Tower was completed in 1913 and expresses the ideals of Oxford and Cambridge. Cleveland Tower started experiencing failure of the limestone pinnacles and finials a few years ago.
Corrosion of the steel pins holding the elements together was one of the major concerns. Old World Stone fabricated over 90 ornately carved finials, pinnacles and stone grafts for the project from Indiana limestone. They were installed using stainless steel pins. The project was completed in 1999.
